CLOSED BETA | VIPRE Advanced Security 11.0.5 - December 12, 2019

Product release information for VIPRE Advanced Security for Home - Windows Edition, released on  December 12, 2019. This Beta release is version 11.0.5.

What's New

  • Protection enhancements - This service release includes enhanced support for the newest versions of the Windows 10 operating system. Our cloud-based Advanced Active Protection engine, which uses artificial intelligence along with cloud-based threat intelligence, is improved even more with this release to keep you protected from the latest threats.
  • Social Watch - Due to changes imposed by Facebook, we have removed the Social Watch feature as it would not continue to provide the value provided in the past.
  • History cleaner - Our VIPRE Privacy Shield product protects your identity by finding personally identifiable information (PII)  in your browser's history, temp files, as well as documents stored on your computer. With the depth of search capabilities to make you aware of stored PII data that VIPRE Privacy Shield can provide to you, we have made the tough decision to remove the history cleaner capabilities from VIPRE Advanced Security. If you install VIPRE Privacy Shield, you can now selectively review and delete stored browser data, as well as put personal documents into an encrypted vault on your machine. VIPRE Privacy Shield is part of the VIPRE Ultimate bundle or can be purchased alone.
  • Bug fixes - In addition to these changes, we have fixed various bugs with this release.

Issue: VIPRE fails to open, often with a message reading "VIPREUI.exe - This application could not be started"  [VIPREHOME-7484]
Edit section

This message happens because VIPRE requires .NET 4.6 to run. On some computers, Windows must be updated before .NET 4.6 can be installed.

Action Required

To install .NET 4.6 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2, you must first run Windows Update and patch your PC.

See the Microsoft KB articles below for more details, or our VIPRE Support article.

I updated my main production laptop to the beta (ver on Friday evening and my updates did not stall (like they did in previous versions) and kept pace with my 2 times a day settings. But I just got a red-shield today and had to reboot my laptop to continue. I couldn't restart the SBAMsvc.exe services from the tray icon, I had to reboot.

Chris, how often are you seeing this red shield issue occurring?  Are you aware of anything specific occurring around that time such as a scheduled scan, auto patch scan, etc?

Nick - Nothing is obvious and I have only gotten the red shield this once with the new version. One the previous version, I would get the red-shield about once every couple weeks. But I know I have Auto-patch turned off and the definitions down to updating just twice a day (although it looks like it updates those right before scheduled scans). I went through the Event log and found the messages for the SBAMsvc.exe service errors. It looks like Vipre couldn't restart even thought it looks like it may have tried. I took screen snips of them if you want to see the actual messages.

The actual stall/delay in updating the definitions I saw in the previous version, looks like it is fixed in 11.0.5 and I will try to watch closely to see if/when the red-shield event occurs again.

Chris, if you see any further issues with this, please feel free to open a ticket with Support so we can collect some diagnostics and look into the problem for you.
