A VIPRE Business Agent is not contacting the Console or downloading definitions and it's XML files are missing.

  • VIPRE Business Premium
  • VIPRE Endpoint Security
  • All Supported Environments

There are multiple situations that can cause the XML Settings files for an Agent to not generate.

Confirm the Microsoft Cryptography MachineGuid isn't corrupt:

  1. Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
    • HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ Cryptography \
  2. Double-Click MachineGUID in the right-hand pane
  3. If the Guid is within curly brackets ("{" & "}"), remove them
  4. Select OK and close the Registry Editor
  5. Restart the Agent and the XML files should populate

If no contact is made, the Windows MSXML dll files may need to be re-registered:

  1. Stop the VIPRE Agent's service
  2. Open an Administrative Command Prompt
  3. Run the following commands: (A few may produce an error)
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml.dll
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml2.dll
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml4.dll
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml5.dll
    • regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml6.dll
  4. Restart the Agent and the XML files should populate

If the issue persists, the Microsoft Cryptograph Service may be having trouble:

  1. Stop the VIPRE Business service
  2. Navigate to the following folder:
    • Vista & Later: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
    • XP & 2000: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
  3. Rename the "S-1-5-18" folder
  4. Start the VIPRE Business service and the XML files should populate

Should the trouble remain after these steps have been performed, the underlying issue is likely due to Microsoft XML Core files being corrupt.

These can be repaired using the System File Checker:

Generally speaking, at this point there is a problem with the Operating System that can not be repaired via the conventional methods indicated here and the Operating System needs to be reinstalled.

The MachineGuid is corrupt, the Microsoft XML DLL files need to be re-registered, the Cryptography Service has corrupt information, or core Windows Files are missing/corrupt
