The following error is encountered either during installation/removal, in the Product's Installation Log file, or in Window's Event Logs:

"Error 1612: Installation source for this product is not available"

Product Installation Logs can be located:

  • VIPRE Home: %Temp%\VIPREInstall.log (or VIPREPremiumInstall.log)
  • VIPRE Business: C:\ProgramData\VIPRE Business Agent\logs\Agent-MSI.csv (Other OS/Version Locations)
  • VIPRE Email Security: %Temp%\MSI*.log


  • VIPRE Business
  • VIPRE Business Premium
  • VIPRE Endpoint Security
  • VIPRE Email Security
  • All Supported Operating Systems


Run Microsoft Fix it to remove the current installation of VIPRE. To download the tool, click on the following link:

Here are some instructions on running this tool:

  1. Click the green "Run Now" button on the site linked above.
  2. Run the program downloaded
  3. Click the Accept button
  4. Microsoft Fix It will scan the machine for Windows Install and Uninstall issues
  5. Select "Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply"
  6. Select "Uninstalling"
  7. Select VIPRE from the programs listed and click Next
  8. Select "Yes, try uninstall"
  9. Make sure all the Listed isses are checked and click Next
  10. You will get a result status notifying you that the process succeeded.
  11. Select one of the feedback options and click Next
  12. Click the Close button

Once this is complete, VIPRE should have been removed from the system. If you were receiving error 1714 during the installation of VIPRE and it lead you to this error article, you can now attempt to install VIPRE again. 


These problems may occur when the Windows installer database file (.msi) is missing from the Windows installer cache under %windir%\installer. When a product is installed by using Windows installer, a stripped version of the original .msi file is stored in the Windows Installer cache. Reinstallation/uninstallation of the product relies on the information store in the .msi file stored in the cache which triggers the error.
