The following error is encountered in the Microinstaller.csv during a VIPRE Business Agent installation attempt:

Couldn't acquire Cryptography context. [Error 2148073494, Keyset does not exist].

The Microinstaller log can be located in the Agent's Volatile Data folder:


  • VIPRE Business
  • VIPRE Business Premium
  • VIPRE Endpoint Security
  • All Supported Environments


Confirming the Microsoft Cryptography MachineGuid isn't corrupt:
  1. Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
    HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ Cryptography \
  2. Double-Click MachineGUID in the right-hand pane
  3. If the Guid is within curly brackets ("{" & "}"), remove them
  4. Select OK and close the Registry Editor
  5. Restart the Agent and the XML files should populate

Recreating Microsoft Cryptography's Local Store folder:
  1. Stop the SBEMI service if still running and uninstall the GFI Microinstaller
  2. Navigate to the following folder:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
    • Windows Vista+: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
  3. Delete or rename the folder labeled S-1-5-18
  4. Attempt Agent Deployment again


The Microsoft Crypto Folder has become corrupt due to software installations over time.
