The following error is encountered when attempting to install or upgrade the VIPRE Business Console:
"Error 1920. Service VIPRE Business Site Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

  • VIPRE Business
  • VIPRE Business Premium
  • VIPRE Endpoint Security
  • All Supported Environments

It is possible that this error is related to the account being used to start the Vipre Business Site Service. If this is the case, using Services.msc to change the log-on account used should resolve the issue.

However, this is most likely a Windows-pipe timeout on the attempted start of the VIPRE Business site service. This can be verified by the following:

To Verify:

  1. Without cancelling the update, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
  2. Locate the VIPRE Business Site Service (probably stopped)
  3. Attempt to start the service. If it returns with Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, please perform the below rectify the problem.

To Rectify:

Use the instructions in the following article to add the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD entry:

The Microsoft Windows Service Control Manager controls the state (i.e., started, stopped, paused, etc.) of all installed Windows services. By default, the Service Control Manager will wait 30,000 milliseconds (30 seconds) for a service to respond. However, certain configurations, technical restrictions or performance issues may result in the service taking longer than 30 seconds to start and report ready to the Service Control Manager.
By editing or creating the ServicesPipeTimeout DWORD value, the Service Control Manager timeout period can be overridden, thereby giving the service more time to start up and report ready to the Service.
