Important: As of version 7, Roaming Agents may be used in place of External Agents. Click here for details
When a VIPRE Business Console is deploying Agents to systems outside of its local network, communication can be setup to allow contact across the internet. Unlike Roaming Agents, Advanced Remote Agents are able to communicate directly with the console as opposed to using the Roaming Service to retain contact.
This is known as a "WAN-Deployment" and requires a bit more configuration:
- Firewalls / Routers need to be configured to allow communication
- A Policy needs to be configured with the communication Information
- An Installation Package can be created for distribution
Configuring Local Firewalls / Routers to Allow External Communication:
- Forward the following ports to the system hosting the VIPRE Console:
- 18082: Agent communication and updates
- 8123: Patch management and updates
- 18090 Hyper-V agent communications
- Ensure SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) Traffic is allowed
Confirming connectivity between a VIPRE Business Agent and Console
Creating a Remote Agent's Policy in the VIPRE Business Console:
The Remote Agent's policy will need to use the Console Server's External Communication Information:
(What is my External IP Address?)
- Open the VIPRE Business Console
- Select Add Policy at the top bar
- Choose Policy Template and highlight "Roadwarriors"
- Name the Policy and select OK
- Double-Click the newly created policy in the Site Navigator
- Navigate to the "Communication" tab
- Change the Policy / Update Servers to the External IP Address
- Select Apply and OK
Note: A FQDN can be used for communication if desired
Creating and Distributing an Installation Package:
- Expand "Agent Installation" at the Upper-Left of the Console
- Select Create MSI Installer Package (Next to the Pliers)
- Choose the previously created Policy and save the file
- Run the aforementioned file locally on the Remote Agents
Shortly after the Installation of the Agent completes, it should call into the Console.
