VIPRE Email Security's engines are signature based which either score or don't score messages.
This scoring is based on the content in the Header, Subject and Body of the message.
- The Advanced Spam Filter always scores spam with a score of 210
- The CloudMark Authority Engine always scores spam with a score of 5000

The sum on the results is the final score of a message which determines what action is to be taken.
In the policy for AntiSpam there is an upper and lower threshold. The default settings are 200 and 6000.
- Messages with a score between 200 and 6000 are quarantined.
- Messages with a score lower than 200 are delivered to the inbox.
- Messages with a score over 6000 are automatically deleted.
- Normal messages that are not spam should always have a final score of 0.
If a regular message is scored incorrectly it is commonly referred to as a false positive.
